This concert was a challenge - I'm not often asked to perform the music of J.S. Bach. However when I was presented with the idea, I thought it would be a lot of fun to play marimba and vibes in such a historic church. The only Bach piece that I play regularly (as a practice warm-up at home, never in concerts) is the last movement of the G minor violin sonata. So I knew I was going to play that in this concert. I also knew I wanted to play the main theme from the 3rd movement of Brandenburg Concerto No. 6 - I've listened to this piece so many times I didn't need to search for the music. It's one of my all-time favorite pieces from any genre. The other pieces I selected were two chorales from Bach's Cantata BWV 153. I also kinda sorta cheated, and played a piece called "Blues on BACH", which was inspired by the Modern Jazz Quartet record of the same name. You'll see what I mean when you watch the concert. This concert was a lot of fun, and I feel inspired to try more things like this in the future. Maybe I'll even buy a marimba someday. I sincerely hope you enjoy the music.
