This visit included checking out the inside of the old station plus touring the equipment in their separate yard thanks to volunteer Matt. We see cats, cabooses, turntable , and work being done on steamer #35. Last but hardly the least, I finally got to run the DE30 and M7 simulators. Fascinating. The DE30 simulator sound reproduction was very authentic and loud. I thought I was on the Real McCoy. The braking positions are bit hard to figure but can be easily learned. The alerter was driving me nuts. That horn!!!!!!! 👎👎👎👎. Nothing personal to the smart guys who make this simulator work so wonderfully. The M7 was a bit easier to operate other than racing out of Hempstead, about to round a 15 mph curve at twice the speed, and overshooting Garden City station about 5 car lengths and did a lousy 14l blast of the horn as i rocketed past Garden City station Other than that, it was a breeze. We end the video with scenic vistas of the Oyster Bay Harbor plus an arrival of a couple trains into Oyster Bay. The way I sounded the horn is the way I would do it as a real engineer. I would not be a cheapskate with the pipes.
