Syrian Kurds join forces with rebels against ISIL

Syrian Kurdish forces fighting Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have said they are officially uniting with a mix of rebel groups. The leaders of the new military alliance - the Democratic Forces of Syria - said they have the backing of both the United States and Russia. The announcement came days after the US said it was abandoning efforts to train rebel forces and instead plans to provide weapons to groups whose commanders have already been vetted. The US has already partnered with brigades who now comprise the Democratic Forces of Syria. Al Jazeera's Zeina Khodr reports from Beirut.
