Torah sitting on bus seat STORYLINE While Israeli troops encountered more resistance on the second day of removing Gaza settlers, one object that was mutually treated with respect was the Torah scrolls within the synagogues. In Neve Dekalim, the Jewish scrolls were ceremoniously removed from their sacred place, Aron Kodesh, and carried onto a waiting bus. Both settlers and security forces shed tears as they watched the scrolls being moved en route to a new synagogue in a new community. The Torah Scrolls, housed in an elaborate velvet embroidered bag and silver cover, is regarded as the most Holy object in Judaism. It is made up of the first five books of the Bible and contains the early history of the Jews. Hand written on sheepskin parchment, the Torah Scrolls, according to belief, should not be mistreated or damaged. At Gan Or, a similar ceremony to remove the holy writings took place inside they synagogue. Once outside, a shofar, or ceremonial goat''s horn, was blown as devotees followed the Scrolls to a waiting bus. The shofar is normally only used on special holidays, such as Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur.
