Iris reconstruction with a Human Optics artificial iris

A patient was referred with a fixed dilated pupil following previous intra-ocular lens surgery. A partial repair of the iris had been attempted elsewhere but the pupil remained abnormally dilated with multiple trans-illumination defects. The main symptoms were glare, haloing, light sensitivity and reduced vision at night. Here we're using a Human Optics artificial iris essentially to restore the normal iris anatomy and to give a more natural sized pupil comparative to the other eye. The new iris is implanted in the sulcus between the remaining intra-ocular lens and the patient's iris. Following the procedure, there was a marked improvement of symptoms and better cosmesis with a more natural sized pupil.
