The works were discovered in the 1990's in the Royal Library of Belgium. The two pieces are Ciacona and Fugue in D Minor and Ciacona in G Minor. A Ciacona, or Chaconne in English, is a piece based on a repeating bass line with Variations over the top. Ben Morris played Ciacona in D Minor prior to the Sung Eucharist on Advent Sunday, a recording of which is available on the York Minster YouTube channel. Ben will play the Ciacona in G Minor prior to today's Sung Eucharist. Each of these will very likely be the first performances of these pieces in York Minster, and among the first times these pieces will be heard in the UK.
