As one of the world’s largest tobacco and cigarette companies in the world, we are regularly asked why we don’t simply stop selling cigarettes. It’s a good question. And we have a good answer. “If we stopped selling cigarettes today, the impact we would have on the number of cigarette smokers is very small. They would just buy another brand of cigarettes and continue smoking." – Dr. Gizelle Baker, Director of Global Scientific Engagement at PMI HOW ARE WE TRANSFORMING OUR BUSINESS? We are working towards replacing cigarettes with better smoke-free alternatives that are scientifically proven to reduce harm compared to cigarettes. WHAT ARE SMOKE-FREE ALTERNATIVES? Vapes, e-cigarettes and heat not burn tobacco products are all examples of smoke-free alternatives. They are non-combustible products and produce either vapour or aerosol rather than smoke. WHY IS PMI WORKING TOWARDS A SMOKE-FREE FUTURE? It’s the right thing to do. There are an estimated one billion-plus smokers in the world, and they should be encouraged to quit.
