Sometimes nails lift due to trauma, fungus or damage. This PT wore shoes that were too tight, as a result his nail detached from the nail bed. These will present from time to time in clinic. I cut the nail back to the area that is attached. Typically the skin integrity below the nail is healed up. There’s usually no redness or drainage present. If there is, you may want you suggest the patient seek a podiatrist for evaluation. Otherwise cut the nail back to it’s attached portions & file with a SKIN bit.
