Justices at the UK’s highest court unanimously ruled that the terms “woman” and “sex” in the Equality Act refer to a biological woman and biological sex. NHS officials have said they will consider the legal definition of a woman, as guidance on same-sex wards is updated. Current NHS England guidance on the issue is laid out in a document from 2019 titled Delivering Same-sex Accommodation.
