In October 2025, Star Catcher broke DARPA’s world record for optical power beaming, a major breakthrough on our journey to build the first power grid in space. In a series of tests conducted at the historic Space Shuttle Launch and Landing Facility, we delivered more than 1.1 kilowatts of electrical power to standard satellite solar panels, including real customer hardware. We surpassed the previous record of 800 watts in less than eight months since we debuted our technology, and only a little over a year since the company was founded. Star Catcher is building an orbital energy grid to eliminate spacecraft power constraints. Using optical power beaming, Star Catcher transmits concentrated and refined solar energy directly to client satellites' existing solar panels. With no retrofit required, satellites can generate up to 10x more power than onboard systems alone, enabling next-generation missions like direct-to-cell satellite connectivity, space data centers, AI-powered remote sensing, and so much more.
