(16 Aug 1998) T/I: 11:00:38 Serb forces on Sunday (16/8) took control of the main rebel stronghold in southwestern Kosovo, the village of Junik, in what appeared to be the finale of a crackdown launched last month against ethnic Albanian separatists. Junik, located near the border with Albania, was known as an organisational, logistical and weapons distribution centre for the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), a group fighting for the independance of Kosovo.
