Cough Syrup Deaths: MP Doctor Arrested After 10 Children Die From Toxic Syrup

Following the deaths of 10 children in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, a doctor who prescribed a cough syrup has been arrested. Dr. Praveen Soni was arrested late Saturday night after an FIR was filed against him and the manufacturer, Shreesan Pharmaceuticals. The action comes after a report found the 'cold rift' cough syrup contained a toxic chemical. The report stated the syrup contained "48.6-diethylene glycol, which could cause serious health problems." An FIR was registered under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and the BNS based on a complaint from a local BMO. Dr. Soni, a government doctor, allegedly prescribed the syrup to most of the deceased children at his private clinic.
