(17 Feb 2026) RESTRICTION SUMMARY: ASSOCIATED PRESS Chicago - 17 February 2026 1. Various of Harald Hall dropping flowers at a house where Jesse Jackson used to live 2. SOUNDBITE (English) Harold Hall, former neighbor of Jesse Jackson: "He was very, very helpful at that time, in (19)68, 69, 70. I stayed in the neighborhood. Reverend (Jesse) Jackson was one of the ones that would come out and shoot ball and try to change the minds of many of our young folk. And in many instances, it happened and worked. The jobs, (Richard) 'Dick' Newhouse (Jr.) and others who participated to try to keep our community safe. So my relationship with Reverend Jackson goes a long way back. Picketing people who didn't want to treat us the right way in terms of sharing the pie. So, I'm so hurt this morning. It's just hard for many of us. You know, he was a trailblazer. He will be missed. We love him. And, that's about all I can say." 3. Wide of Operation PUSH headquarters 4. Mid of Samantha Barret 5. SOUNDBITE (English) Samantha Barrett, former Operation Push sound engineer: "I am here at, the Operation PUSH headquarters on Drexel, on 50th and Drexel, because I actually worked down the street at King College Prep. I'm a digital media teacher. And when I heard the news today, you know, of course, I was sad and I thought about my production people that I used to work with. And so, driving past here and leaving work, I was just compelled to just - I just literally pulled over, jumped out the car, ran across the street." 6. Upward pan of Samantha Barret and Operation Push headquarters 7. Wide Operation PUSH headquarters 8. SOUNDBITE (English) John Alexander, Jesse Jackson's photographer: "Well, I've been, the Rainbow/PUSH and Reverend Jackson's, photographer for the last 15 plus years, covering some of everything with him, you know, go wherever he went, goes wherever he goes. You know, doing everything that, you know, I could for the Rainbow/PUSH organization." 9. Various of Operation PUSH headquarters 10. SOUNDBITE (English) John Alexander, Jesse Jackson's photographer: "But in reality, to Reverend Jesse L. Jackson for me, is that the dedication, the hard work that he put in, the studying that he done, it turned around and made me better at what I do as a photographer. Learning how to deal with him more, knowing his signals and how, you know, I need to work with him and take photos, when he don't want photos, when he do want photos, when to stop doing this, when to stop doing that. The moments of becoming just recognize because of him." 11. Various of Jesse Jackson memorial STORYLINE: Many people who knew and worked with the Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr. are vowing to ‘keep hope alive’ in honor of his legacy. Jackson, who led the U.S. Civil Rights Movement for decades, died Tuesday. The protege of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and two-time presidential candidate was 84. Jackson led a lifetime of crusades in the United States and abroad, advocating for the poor and underrepresented on issues from voting rights and job opportunities to education and health care. Harold Hall, who once lived in the neighborhood where Jackson’s home sits, slowly walked along the sidewalk and up the steps Tuesday morning to leave a small bouquet of flowers outside the Jackson family’s door. Hall told reporters that Jackson helped local street organizations in the late 1960s and early 1970s. “Rev. Jackson was one of the ones that would come out and shoot ball and try to change the minds of many of our young folk,” Hall told reporters. “And in many instances, it happened. It worked.” Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork Twitter: / ap_archive Facebook: / aparchives Instagram: / apnews You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/you...
