Pure Rolling: It is combination of translational motion(centre of mass moves) and rotational motion (object spins) without slipping. Condition for pure rolling: The linear velocity of C.M. 〖(𝐯〗_𝐜𝐦) equals the tangential velocity (R 𝝎) at contact point. Conclusion: In pure rolling motion a) The velocity of point of contact with respect to the surface is zero. b) The point of contact does not slide relative to surface i.e. the displacement in the direction of friction is zero. c) The velocity of centre of mass is given by the relation, 𝒗_𝒄𝒎 = R𝛚 d) The static friction force does not produce any work. e) Mechanical energy is conserved because friction does not cause energy loss. (The energy lost from translation due to friction’s opposing force is exactly equal to energy gained by rotation from friction’s torque, making net work done by friction is zero.)
