LOS ANGELES -- Producer T.D. Jakes joined family and friends on the red carpet to celebrate the opening weekend of the highly-anticipated release of "Sparkle" which opens in theatres nationwide today. "I am a huge fan of the original film, so when the opportunity came to be a part of the remake I jumped at the opportunity," said Jakes. "Sparkle is a very inspiring movie which encourages people to believe in their dreams and fight for those dreams despite all adversities. It also shows the resilience of family, the diversity of families and what it really takes to hold a family together through the trials of life." Sparkle reunites Jakes with Director Salim Akil whom he worked with on the film, "Jumping The Broom," which grossed more than $37 million domestically in 2011. Jakes anticipates "Sparkle" can accomplish similar success as the film, now based in Detroit, boasts a star-studded cast, including Jordin Sparks, Derek Luke, Mike Epps, Carmen Ejogo, Tika Sumpter and the late Whitney Houston. "Whitney's family attended the premiere with us and I am excited to hear that they were truly happy with this project, which tragically became her last screen performance," said Jakes.
