June 24, 2024 “We could never learn to be brave and patient, if there were only joy in the world.” - Helen Keller Having farm animals means that there are a lot of days when all you can do is, "hurry up and wait". They have babies on their own schedule, paying no heed to a 'due date'. God has given them strong instincts, which will guide them through the labour and birthing process...and then, to mothering the new life brought earth side. Though we KNOW that Sugar is close to foaling, we are entirely leaving the timeline up to her and baby. Less interference the better, don't stress...just let nature take its course...unless mama and baby are in trouble, there is nothing you can do at this point. Sugar is doing as well as she can. Despite being extremely sore from long-term damage that was done because of extended hoof neglect (is our best guess). We cling to the hope that she is super close to finding relief from all the extra weight that she is carrying this pregnancy (a pregnancy that she should have NEVER had to endure in her condition). We have been making the best decisions we can for her, with the information we have. She has been with us for 6 months now, and I am heartbroken and yet thankful that we decided to 'rescue' her by bringing her home. It's a long journey, and is proving to be a challenging one. Jitterbug was Breeze's foal born on March 30, 2024. And we are thrilled with how she is growing and developing. She's going to be an athletic little girl!!! Watching her grow and learn has brought me a ton of joy! We can't wait to see what the future holds for her here on our lil farm.
