AB_A_1044 This 3D animation depicts the steps involved in a laparoscopic cholecystetomy procedure in which the EndoCatch specimen retrieval system is used to capture and remove the gallbladder. The surgical procedure begins with the insertion of trocars and insufflation of the abdomen. A laparoscope is then inserted through the trocar and used to illuminate the surgical field surrounding the gallbladder. They cystic duct is clipped and surgical instruments are used to place the gallbladder into the EndoCatch specimen bag. The bag is then closed and the instrument and gallbladder are removed from the body. In this specific case, the metal ring of the EndoCatch breaks off from the instrument during removal from the surgical field and subsequently moves below the umbilicus of the patient. During the final re-examination of the abdomen and surgical field the detatched metal ring is not seen.
