Here I apply wallboard joint compound to the mountains. Traditionally I’ve used a scraper to apply the joint compound, but after looking at the original application from the factory, decided to paint the plaster on. I found it works quite well and I’ll be doing subsequent mountains this way. I hope you can find some use in “painting on” plaster on your own layouts. Special thanks to Dale Smith and his website American Flyer Displays and History for allowing me the use of Badlands photos from the Ray Mohrlang collection on www.americanflyerdisplays.org. Please checkout his website for great American Flyer and Gilbert history and research for ideas when creating your own layouts. As always, thanks for watching. Next time I’ll be applying some mountain details using plaster of paris and subsequently will be matching paint and completing this mountain building series of “Restoring the Badlands.” Enjoy your American Flyer Trains!
