As the jury selection process continues in the Derek Chauvin trial, Hennepin County Judge Peter Cahill reinstated the third-degree murder charge. Chauvin initially faced the charge days after George Floyd's death, but Cahill dismissed it in the fall, saying it did not apply to the case. Eric Nelson, Chauvin's defense attorney, tried to keep the third-degree murder charge thrown out, but Cahill did additional research in reference to case precedent.
