Genesis Educational and Charitable Trust also known as GECT, was founded in the year 2009 in Kolkata, West Bengal with the idea to help the downtrodden in our society little did we know about the atrocities of the underprivileged until we saw it ourselves, for real while surveying. Let’s discover how it all started from its very inception. The founder of this charitable trust Dr. Purnendu Roy, a laparoscopic surgeon, had an innate desire to help the needy in distress. He started operating free of cost for the underprivileged within Genesis Hospital. He then, got to know from a friend, that there were a group of widowed women and fatherless children in Sundarbans. These families didn’t have any male members as they were attacked and eaten by the Royal Bengal tigers or crocodiles in the jungles of Sundarbans. The male members of these families go into the dense forest to earn their livelihood i.e. to collect honey then, the irreversible happens that is they are attacked by tigers and killed. Dr. Roy visited Amlamethi village and the other neighbouring villages, seeing the atrocities of the women and children there; he took an oath to help these people out with the basic necessities of life with food, clothing, tuition fees, school shoes & socks, sanitary development for girls, school infrastructure developments, restructuring kitchen for mid-day meals, safe drinking water, sustainable development projects like animal husbandry, educational facilities like text books, exercise books, stationeries, computers and healthcare facilities like health check - ups & surgeries on a regular basis. We also provide free vocational training of computer learning and education to all children in Shibganj and Amlamethi. GECT for the last 9 years, have been relentlessly working for the underprivileged, be it in serving the poor with the best healthcare facilities in Genesis Hospital or working for the widowed women and fatherless children in Sundarbans or supporting the special children who are differently abled or donating as many trees or plants to all school students so that they become responsible Indian citizens. The projects that we have done from our charitable trust i.e. GECT for the needy, destitute, underprivileged, widowed women, fatherless children and the special kids are just minimal that we could do for these people.
