Vietnam visa policy in brief Please go to the posts to see an overview as at 15 October 2025 (Things Change) and a step by step guide to visas Vietnam requires most foreign nationals (including Australians) to hold a visa or approved entry permit before arrival (or at entry) unless they qualify for visa exemption. Since 15 August 2023, Vietnam’s e-Visa (electronic visa) scheme is extended so that citizens of all countries (including Australia) may apply for a visa online, valid up to 90 days (single or multiple entry) via designated entry/exit checkpoints. The e-Visa is typically the most convenient for shorter stays. For long stays, work, business, family, investment, etc., Vietnam has additional visa categories, temporary residence cards (TRCs), and permanent residence, though these are more restrictive.
