They were originally made in Japan and are sometimes called Japanese Miracle Beads. They are made of acrylic resin, have a lucite core with a silver mirror-plated finish and are coated with several layers of coloured lacquer. When viewed in the light, they appear to have a bead within the bead. The light passes through the lacquer, which reflects the mirror core back through the layers. This results in an illusion of depth. They do not glow in the dark but do appear to glow in the light.
