American Mime Theatre (AMT) is a Performing Company and School based at 137 West 25th Street in New York City. At AMT, we are proud to offer high-quality acting, movement, and physical theatre classes for adults and youth in the NYC area. Our mission is to preserve and evolve the art form known as American Mime, founded in New York City by Paul J. Curtis in 1952. Artistic Director Janet Carafa is an internationally respected mime artist, educator, yoga master and author dedicated to revitalizing and expanding the legacy of American Mime. As a longtime AMT performer, Janet trained extensively with Paul J. Curtis in New York and also studied with Marcel Marceau in Paris, giving her a unique mastery of both American and European traditions of mime. Currently in development, our virtual American Mime class series aims to provide meaningful instruction in movement, mindfulness, and creative expression.
