Day 7 – Victoria Ride It’s worth pre-purchasing the Sorento–Queenscliff Ferry tickets. After riding up the well-renowned Arthurs Seat and snapping a picture of the low-laying fog, we arrived at the Sorento Terminal and were admitted onto the earlier 8am Ferry — beats waiting an hour, and the car in front had to do that as he just bought his ticket. Off the Ferry at Queenscliff and trailing dozens of cars towards the Great Ocean Road was expected but still a pain. We stopped at the famous GOR road-sign and eventually turned off for the ride up Deans Marsh-Lorne Rd, which started the twisty ride for the day. Our aim wasn’t to sight-see the GOR, which we’ve done before on the bikes; it was to ride the Otways. We cut across to Forrest-Apollo Bay Road, an absolute ripper, right up there with the best! The Forrest Brewery is a great place to stop and the air-con works. We had morning tea there and afterwards a late lunch. It was worth the ride across on Turton Track — a mega-twisty rain forest sealed road that eventually opens up after Beech Forest. Back on the best part of the GOR you get a perfect surface and around 40km of undulating sweepers, and we were lucky enough to encounter very few cars blocking the road. Back up the wonderful Skenes Creek Road (Forest-Apollo Bay Rd) — the better direction heading north, and we had a pretty good run. After the late lunch it was still 36°, so we thought we’d cut the ride short and get some washing done at our Colac destination. Overall, a pretty good and very hot day — we knew the GOR traffic would be challenging and it was great to see so many people out and about enjoying the wonderful coast line — Apollo Bay was absolutely packed!
