How to make oil paints at home with pigments and linseed oil. Short video of the first time I tried to make paint. (additional later comment: The stringiness is simply a property of this pigment when mixed with oil. It can be alleviated slightly with wax oil, but it is perfectly usable.) This batch was horrible. Well, its still usable- very highly pigmented- but sticky. My first time making paint. This was before I learned about pre-heating the oil. It makes all the difference in the world. Without heating it you wind up with thick, goopy, stringy paint. I added wax near the end to help a little. Lesson learned DISCLAIMER: I am not a professional paintmaker. I am only documenting my process. Always use a mask when working with powdered pigments. I have also altered my method a little since this. I no longer add calcite (or VERY LITTLE) to the pigment to extend it. It tends to harden in the tube after about 6-8 months with some colors when calcite is in it. I prefer to add it (if needed) when I am actually in the painting process. Visit me at https://www.patrickfosterstudio.com/ or / dreamingthemuse
