2 Kings 3:8-20 3 Kings and their armies in the desert and they have NO water Let me state the obvious: That’s a bad situation It happened suddenly but it was gradual in the making Most of the stuff we see all of a sudden is actually a result of things that are subtle Ernest Heminway once wrote: “How did you go bankrupt?" Two ways. Gradually, then suddenly.” How did you get divorced? Two ways: gradually, then suddenly How did you get addicted to alcohol? Two ways: gradually then suddenly How did your pant size go from a 32 to a 36? Two ways: gradually then suddenly How did they run out of water in the desert? Two ways: gradually then suddenly Now this all real dark; let’s flip the coin Success is the same principle = gradual then sudden Sudden success is not sustainable You do not want sudden success = lottery winners (70% go bankrupt) Children who take over family company Sustainable Success as a Christian is not all of a sudden Kingdom of God is not a microwave but an oven Chinese bamboo Years 1-5 = nothing Year 5 = 80ft in 6 weeks Did the bamboo grow in 6 weeks or 5 years? Dig, Dig, Dig Back to the 3 Kings They find themselves in trouble and call for the prophet Amazing thing: you can go to God before you get in trouble or after and He will always respond Notice the prophet does not say what they all see 2 Kings 3:16-18 The prophet doesn't say what he sees; he says what God said Sometimes we talk way too much about what we see and not enough about what God says What God says trumps what I see We walk by faith not by sight You might see what is front of you, but you have to listen to what God says What has the power to deliver me from this addiction? What the Lord says What has the power to heal my body? What the Lord says What has the power to restore my marriage? What the Lord says What the Lord says is still as powerful today as it was in 2 Kings 3 Faith still comes by hearing the Word of the Lord Your faith is growing right now (Why I read a lot of Bible in sermons) Is this situation terrible? Yes but this is what the Lord says No water = really bad What you need you already have in front of you Moses said how you are going to bring down Egypt through me? God’s response, “What is in your hand?” Moses said a staff, God said that’ll do What you need, you already have Just like when the woman came to the prophet of God and said, “I’m in so much debt they are going to take my children.” The man of God said, “What do you have?” She said a little oil The man of God said, “That will do. Now go borrow some containers to fill up.” God multiplied the oil What you need, you already have The disciples came to Jesus and said, “There thousands of people hungry.” Jesus asked, “What do you have?” They said a few fish and bread Jesus said, “That will do.” What you have is exactly what you need Leave the list of what you don’t have alone What you need is within reach Dig some ditches Instruction Before Intervention Notice: before the intervention of God there is an instruction from God Sometimes you have to dig before God does The prophet said make this valley full of ditches They don't need ditches, they need water but they are in a desert What is the ditch that God is calling you to dig? When I see people who are successful I now ask the question: what did they have to dig to get where God has taken them? I have discovered that people want the intervention of God without doing the instructions of God When God speaks he gives a command Wedding banquet Mary gives greatest instruction ever on how to receive miracles Whatever Jesus tells you to do just do it Those servants could have argued but instead they just did Joshua & Jericho If you have to understand to obey you are faithLESS Wanting to walk by sight and not faith Nobleman came to Jesus with sick son - Jesus gave a command to go Man with a withered hand - Jesus gave a command stretch forward Blind man by the pool of Siloam - Jesus gave a command to wash 10 lepers - Jesus gives a command to go show yourself Pattern - Need, Command, Obedience then Miracle Whatever Jesus tells you to do just do it God did it, when they dug it God will do it, when I dig it Devil tries to get you to stop digging He wants you to stop praying, stop praising, stop giving Here is the most important question: are you willing to dig until God does? You want Bible results? You got to do Bible things I remember digging ditches here at Sheridan wondering if God was every going to send water Story of almost quitting - Acres of Diamonds I look back and now I can say: I dug it and God did it I did not send the water: God did because that's His job I dug the ditch because that's my job I can't make the water but I can dig a ditch God tell me where to dig I don't know about you but Im going to dig until God does I'm going to pray until God does I'm going to praise until God does When I dig it, God will fill it Galatians 6:9
