BNSF's Chillicothe Sub: The Climb Up Edelstein Hill

BNSF's former ATSF Chillicothe Sub runs from Chicago, IL to Fort Madison, IA and is the eastern most subdivision on BNSF's Southern 'Transcon' linking Chicago to the west coast markets in Southern California. I had previously documented a section of the Chillicothe Sub in October, 2015, focusing on the line between Coal City and Ancona. In a return trip in July, 2017, I took a look at the section between Chillicothe and Monica (pronounced 'Moh nee ka), a small village east of Williamsfield with a central focus on Edelstein Hill. Union Pacific trackage right trains are very much evident in addition to the non-stop parade of stack trains, with a few locals and unit autorack trains as well. This trip was truly one for the record books. With fantastic weather, lots of action and the still active ATSF searchlight signals, this video is sure to be one you will enjoy!
