Dawood Alayhi salam asked Allah: “oh my Lord, who are your most beloved and favourite servants so that I can love them for loving you”. This is because Allah commanded us to love him and those who love him. We can all wonder about who Allah loves the most but Allah has answered this question for us himself. Allah informed Dawood Alayhi salam that his favourite servants are those who have pure and kind hearts free from animosity, jealousy, hatred and stinginess. Also those people with pure hands who earn a halal livelihood and the honest servants who do not cause harm to others. Furthermore, Allah loves the servant who received a position of power and used it honestly. Now there are some people who do Ibaadah and go to Hajj but none of it is accepted from them due to the filthy states of their hearts. This darkness and filth is caused by spiritual diseases such as hatred and envy to name a few. For this reason, Allah did not say that his favourite servant is the one who prays extra nawaafil or does tasbeeh as Allah is in no need of these things. It is important to remember that Our actions affect only ourselves and are judged by our intentions. Allah mentioned that those servants who cause no harm nor any pain to others are the dearest to him and their imaan is more steadfast than a vast mountain. Their Taqwa is not easily affected by greed or fear. Allah also told Dawood Alayhi salam that he loves those people who help the oppressed whether they are good or bad as this is the Sunnah of Rasool Allahصلى الله عليه وسلم. A muslim should help any person who is need or requires assistance. Allah loves those who fulfill the needs of others and help find solutions to their problems. These people will walk strong on the day of Judgement whilst others will be stumbling and falling into hell. Our immediate reaction, when someone seeks our help, is usually to ask ourselves: “What will this person give me in return?” This is the wrong mentality and that person is already in need so cannot give you anything. Instead ask yourself: “What will his creator give me?” As everything is in the hands of Allah, Lord of the Heavens and Earth. Rectify your intention and help others for the sake of Allah, seeking his pleasure, love and closeness.
