Alwen Reservoir in North Wales with visibly lower water levels than normal. The Alwen Reservoir is a 900 acre lake situated near Cerrigydrudion in North Wales. It is the largest man made lake in Wales and was built in the early 1900's. Originally built to supply water to Birkenhead, it is now part of the River Dee Regulation System supplying water to households in North Wales. The conifer trees around the reservoir are part of the Hiraethog Forest, and were planted to replenish timber supplies following the First World War.
