The Ghanaian leader receives a symbolic elephant head gift; a sign of strength, wisdom and African unity. President John Dramani Mahama to officially open the 2026 Judicial Year of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, marking the Court’s historic 20th anniversary celebrations. The Ghanaian leader touched down in Arushaas Special Guest of Honour -becoming the first sitting Ghanaian President invited to address the continental human rights court. During his ceremonial welcome, President Mahama received a symbolic elephant head gift, representing strength, wisdom, leadership and enduring African unity , a powerful cultural honour from his Tanzanian hosts. The event brings together African leaders, jurists and international partners under the theme: “20 Years of Service in Protecting Human and Peoples’ Rights in Africa.”
