The Debate: Development, digital innovation and children

The impact of Information and Communication Technologies on social and economic development is an intriguing subject for research. Although the potential is proved to be great, many questions remain unanswered, especially on how technology can improve children's lives. This Debate digs with a critical eye into technological revolution and offers a perspective on the connection between structural and social issues and the uneven distribution of communication technologies. It is moderated by Caroline Figueres, Director of the International Institute for Communication, with studio guests: Shafika Isaacs, Independent Consultant on Technology for Education and Human Development from South Africa; Linda Raftree, Senior Advisor Innovation at Plan International from the USA; and Dr Dorothea Kleine, Director of the ICT4D Centre of Royal Holloway, University of London; and Dr Kentaro Toyama, a Visiting Scholar at the University of California Berkeley School of Information.
