For this #TribeSeries, we are shining a spotlight on Christina de la Cruz (she/her). Ma Christina de la Cruz, known professionally as Christina de la Cruz, is a 30 year old Freelance Performing Artist, born and raised in St. Jamestown (also known as Bleecker) in Toronto, ON. Being of Filipinx and Ethiopian heritage, Christina joins us in conversation to discuss topics in: Upbringing Career in Professional Dance/Artistry Learning about her Black roots through dance Intergenerational Healing Systemic Barriers as a WOC (Womxn of Colour) Embodying her Filipinx heritage through her work The next generation of BIPOC individuals Future plans Christina found her love for Hip Hop dance at the Cabbagetown youth centre, in the heart of Toronto’s immigrant community of Jamestown. She broke into the entertainment industry, dancing next to Nelly Furtado, Kiesza and Dragonette. After dabbling in Canadian TV & Film like Disney’s Zombies. Fox’s Rocky Horror Picture Show and Descendants 2, she took the leap to Los Angeles and hasn’t looked back since. You can now find her alongside artists like Drake, Cardi B & Becky G, or appearing in commercials for Old Navy or Heineken. She is forever exploring the transformative and healing nature of dance.
