"Kurosaki's Earth-Friendly Mokuhanga Techniques" - Forty-five years ago a teaching artist from Kyoto visited the University of Washington for the fourth time and we made this video. I reissued it in 2016 on YouTube, slightly improved but I could not repair the soundtrack. It was viewed over 2,300 times. This year, thanks to improved processing, it is better. Reviewing it, I was impressed with the ecological advantages of his technique, known as mokuhanga. This method of printing with watercolor on vegetable fiber paper from wooden blocks with a bamboo device, the baren, made me rename the original ("Kurosaki Prints Again!"). Watch the upper right corner as YouTube "cards" with bits of useful knowledge from our archives. At the end viewers may click to play "Japanese Woodcut Revelation" - another, earlier video made in 1978 with Kurosaki explaining how he made athe print he gave to the Henry Gallery at the University of Washington. Comments: -RIP Akira Kurosaki who passed away in 2018. He was a wonderful and spirited teacher. Absolutelly superb, thank you. Thanks for preserving this wonderful demonstration on traditional Japanese papermaking, embossing, and printmaking by this talented artist. -Thank you for making the time to make these videos available. So much knowledge and inspiration come from watching... -Very cool. answers a lot of questions. -Mr. Ritchie can you please suggest some recourses on the carving itself , please. -Thank you, Bill, for posting this wonderful vintage video!
