Another collection of sax clippings. The oldest is the last in this upload. I was 17... had to be 1978 I guess. There’s a lot of great musicians on all these tracks but I’m only going to credit my friend Kevin who played the vibraslap in the last piece. The Gilpin, Carver and Jarboe trio recorded that in the old Allen Martin studio in J-town , live, to two track, no overdubs. We needed a single vibraslap and no one had a hand free but my buddy Kevin, who had nothing better to do but hang in the studio that night. When I say we “needed” that vibraslap , I’m lying. We just saw it laying around and thought it would be a funny addition to a open spot in the piece. This is one of those clips that I only had on cassette. I did realize we had a cassette player in a phonograph unit we never use. When I say I “realized”, I’m lying. My son told me it was there. The other tracks are from CDs, including the live cut from around 2010 I think. You know it’s live because of the kid talking all the way through. It adds some nice distraction to some of my pitchy playing. I never got as comfortable with the alto as I was with the tenor. The alto always seemed to want to fight me. You can tell from all the screaming. Well, there are a lot of other things I played on with a lot of other people that I either don’t have or don’t remember or both. When I say “ a lot” , I’m lying. I was part timing the sax most of my life. When somebody got me interested in synths and most of my playing required being the keyboardist most of the time, the sax collected dust. My wind controller is not being treated much better. It’s like going to band camp again when I pick it up. My lip hurts for a week, and people hit me with rolled up towels. When I say people " hit me with rolled up towels".......
