Hello everyone...have you ever wondered about how small humans are in the universe? It can be frightening to think about, and perhaps a bit terrifying to admit that we are but specs of specs within this infinite cosmic sea. H.P Lovecraft spent his life contemplating the existence of humans and our insignificance in the universe. He wrote dark, horrific tales of delusional characters, supernatural occurrences, and absurd realities to rattle us from our mundane reality. His philosophy, cosmicism, is found within his work and emphasizes the notion that there is no benevolent creator/force that loves humans. Instead, the universe is indifferent to our existence, and that we do not matter one bit to anyone or anything. I don't believe this philosophy is a precursor to an existential crisis, however. There are a few inconsistencies with its concept and proves to be only a window into another reality, the reality of imagination. You'll find my thoughts on the philosophy, as well as Lovecraft's work in the video along with a brief background. Personally, I find horror and philosophy to be a wonderful combination. We can thank Lovecraft for dedicating his life to unveiling the illusions of reality, calling us to question everything we have ever known. He says, "The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown." But what if fear were love in disguise. What if fear were only a plead of the heart to feel alive. What if fear is a knowing of love, a call to love. Then we shall say, "The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is love, and the oldest and strongest kind of love is love of the unknown." If we are but nothing, nothing at all, then let love keep us going... I hope this video gives you something to think about and provides you with a sense of peace that resides in the unknown. With lots of love and coffee, Lael :) Resources: https://www.hplovecraft.com/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmicism Find me on instagram @laelm.k ***Disclaimer: This information is presented solely for educational and entertainment purposes.
