You've seen nearly all the elevators in this place, so let's take a look at the escalators. Very nice Hitachi escalators, especially the older types on the left side of the atrium with the cross patterned cover plates and rather unusual handrail arcs. The ones on the other side are 1990s model, hence the different design. Sadly all the 1990s escalators weren't working, probably to save electricity seeing how quiet this place is now. The reason why this atrium has escalators of two different types is because this mall was heavily renovated in the late 1990s to make way for a French department store called Printemps which never opened. Originally, the atrium had only several pairs of 1970s Hitachi escalators on the left side and a scenic elevator (the first of its kind in Indonesia) in the middle. It was completely different when the mall was first opened in 1980. When the atrium was renovated in the late 1990s to its current form, the scenic elevator was removed and several units of new Hitachi escalators were installed on the other side of the atrium. In the 2010s, a newer Sigma escalator was installed on the ground floor for access down to the Lotte supermarket on LG. It is currently sealed off since Lotte closed down a year ago, and a thyssenkrupp barrier is now placed there for some reason. • Brand: Hitachi • Installed by: PT.
