Lesson on Hashimoto Thyroiditis: Risk factors, pathogenesis, signs and symptoms and treatment. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is an autoimmune condition involving the destruction of the thyroid tissue leading to hypothyroidism. There are a variety of risk factors for Hashimoto’s including being female, genetics (ex. HLA-DR3 gene), family history and stress among others. The pathogenesis of Hashimoto’s is due to the production of auto-antibodies including anti-thyroglobulin among a variety of others.
