Note: Where spellings between Sinixt and Okanagan words differ, the Sinixt version is written first, followed by a / and then the Okanagan version – e.g. lim̓lm̓tx/limləmt (thank you) n̓səl̓xčin̓/nsyilxcən (pronounced n-selh-cheen) is the language spoken by several Salish peoples, including Sinixt and Okanagan peoples. The word n̓səl̓xčin̓ is based on the root word, silx, meaning Salish people. The affixes n̓- and -čin̓ refer to a language, so n̓səl̓xčin̓ means language of Salish people. sn̓ʕay̓čkstx (pronounced sin-ay-ch-kst-h) – Sinixt sn̓ʕay̓čkstx is an ethnonym, the name of a people. The root of sn̓ʕay̓čkstx is ʕay̓čkst, bull trout. The affix pair, sn̓- -x refers to a people, so sn̓ʕay̓čkstx means, bull-trout people. suknaqínx (pronounced suk-ina-kayn-h) – Okanagan way̓ (pronounced like the English word ‘why?’) Its most basic meaning is ‘complete.’ It is used to say hello, goodbye, and you’re welcome. lim̓lm̓tx/limləmt (pronounced leem-limt-h). lim̓lm̓tx is a way to say thank you in n̓səl̓xčin̓. Skxikn̓ (pronounced sku-hee-kin) Skxikn̓ is a place name for the Revelstoke area that means the place going along the ridge or place going along the mountains. The root of Skxikn̓ is kxan̓, to go along. Skxikn̓ also has the affix –ikn̓, meaning ridge or back
