After some scenic sailing around the Westman islands, our first port of call was to the Heimaey Island off the coast of Southern Iceland. We had a stunning narrow sail-in to their harbour area and this day Jamie and I hiked to the top of the volcano, known for a huge eruption in the 1970s. Heimaey Island was named one of New York Times’ top travel destinations in 2024. We encourage everyone to see Reykjavik in Iceland for 2-3 nights before embarking on their cruise or expedition ship.
