A Continent in Crisis: Russia, Ukraine and the European Story Radoslaw Sikorski in conversation with Navtej Sarna Europe is navigating a period of change shaped by history, politics, and global developments. Deputy Prime Minister of Poland, Radosław Sikorski, drawing on his experience as a journalist and European statesman, reflects on the evolving situation in Russia and Ukraine, Poland’s role in responding to the crisis, and how Europe is adapting to a rapidly changing world. Presented by Rajasthan Patrika Radosław Sikorski is a Polish politician and diplomat, best known as the longest-serving Foreign Minister of Poland and former Deputy Prime Minister. An Oxford (Pembroke College) graduate, he began his career as a war correspondent in Afghanistan and Angola (1986–1989). He later served as Minister of Defence (2005–2007), Foreign Affairs (2007–2014), and Speaker of the Sejm (2014–2015). Between 2019 and 2023 he was a Member of the European Parliament, chaired the U.S. relations delegation, and sat on key foreign-affairs and security subcommittees. He has authored several books and is married to journalist-writer Anne Applebaum; together they have two sons. Navtej Sarna has served as India’s Ambassador to the United States, High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, and Ambassador to Israel, and has held key roles including Secretary to the Government of India and Foreign Office Spokesperson. His diplomatic assignments include Moscow, Warsaw, Thimphu, Tehran, Geneva, and Washington DC. An accomplished author, his works include the novels Crimson Spring (Kalinga Literary Festival Fiction Book Award 2022), The Exile, and We Weren’t Lovers Like That; the short story collection Winter Evenings; non-fiction works including The Book of Nanak, Second Thoughts, and Indians at Herod’s Gate; and translations of Zafarnama and Savage Harvest. He is also a prolific columnist on foreign policy and literary topics.
