EOO Soulful Sri Lanka with Paul & Jo

Paul & Jo had the privilege of exploring this beautiful country, as part of the support crew on a Classic Car Rally led by Bruno Leunen of Destination Rally. We were supported by the Local Sri Lankan Ground Agent, Authenticities, who had a major role to play in the logistics of the event and it was done in the most memorable way. Sri Lanka is so much more than just a beautiful country with wonderful people and delicious food. It is a feeling - a feeling that is indelibly imprinted on our hearts and a place we can't wait to return to. There is so much variety in terms of landscape, breathtaking vistas and diverse cultures all blended together from the tapestry of their past which is rich in incredible history and the home of multiple UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The highlight for us was undoubtedly the people!! They have warm open hearts - everyone is smiling from the customs officials when you enter Colombo airport to the tea pluckers, basket weavers, fishermen and everyone in between and of course the people working in the hospitality industry really made us feel so welcome. In spite of language barriers in some areas, their smiles said so much more which dissolved the barriers immediately as the warmth in their hearts and eyes spoke volumes - even the traditional tribesmen we met from the forest. Everyone made us feel at home. The Sri Lankans have such resilience borne out of the adversities the country has had to endure and most of all their can-do/make a plan attitude which is inspiring. There is a wonderful feeling of community and everyone is making a contribution to their country in some small or big way and everyone is proud of their craft. It was the first time a Classic Car Rally had been hosted in Sri Lanka and it was such a hit that it will be repeated again in 2025. The teamwork between Destination-Rally and Authenticities, was an example of how teamwork makes the dream work - dynamic, productive, cohesive and fun - like a family.
