Pooja & Arvind were on cloud nine when they got to know that they are expecting their first child. The happy news came with a roller coaster ride of all jitters and emotions. But soon they underwent routine tests, they got to know about the problem. Pooja was diagnosed with ectopic pregnancy. This condition occurs when a fertilized egg grows outside of the uterus. Almost all ectopic pregnancies—more than 90%—occur in a fallopian tube. As the pregnancy grows, it can cause the tube to burst (rupture). A rupture can cause major internal bleeding. This can be a life-threatening emergency that needs immediate surgery. The problem took a toll on Pooja & she was rushed to MGM Healthcare, Chennai., as she had her complete trust & faith in the hospital. Under the supervision of Dr M Sivasundari, Senior Consultant- Obstetrics & Gynaecology at MGM Healthcare Chennai, she underwent open right salpingectomy (removal of fallopian tube) in order to save patient’s life.
