How to manage collar rot disease of chilies | Crop Reformer

Radish (Capsicum annum) is so an important condiment/spice crop that there is not any house where it is not used in Punjab. It is cultivated throughout Punjab more or less all round the year. A severe disease of collar rot caused by Phytophthora infestans sometimes leads the chilies especially local non hybrid varieties to the utter failure. Roots remain healthy but stem of the chilies is destroyed by the fungus from the soil level. Diseased plants may die due to girdling of water and nutrients supply within a few days. Hybrid varieties are also attacked but degree of infestation is very low. How to address this disease? This thing has been highlighted in this video. We have suggested not to cultivate non hybrid varieties. Avoid touching of irrigation water to the stems. Use the balanced fertilizers. Crop should be planted along the raised beds. In order to avoid diseased plants debris, crop should be planted in the new fields.
