Motivation Story About Teamwork: The Monkey and the Elephant

It is really easy to want to be the one that "gets it done", whether that is shooting the game-winning basket or being the winning run in baseball. What we don't always realize is in order for everyone to get that good feeling of a job well done, we need to work together. The Story: This is a motivation story about two friends: the monkey and the elephant. The elephant thought it was best to be strong and sturdy. The monkey thought the opposite--fast and flexible was best. They took their question to the wise owl who instructed them to retrieve fruit from across the river and he would give them the answer. While on the journey, the elephant realized he could make it across the river but could not get the fruit down. The monkey knew he could climb the tree but wouldn't be able to get across the river without help. The two finally come together to retrieve the fruit and when they got to the owl he helped them realize a valuable lesson: It is more important to get the job done than to argue over who put more effort in. There are lot of times in life we want to be first or the hero. This comes up a lot in team sports. It is good to WANT to be in that role, but not at the expense of the others on your team.
