StarCraft: Insurrection is a forgotten piece of both Blizzard and StarCraft history. But why was it forgotten in the first place? In this video, we’ll explore how this expansion came into existence, what it’s like to play, why Blizzard stopped doing authorized expansions after StarCraft, and whether it’s worth your time to play through today. We’ll also walk through the story, missions, and key events that make Insurrection such a strange entry in StarCraft’s history. I’ve spent many hours playing StarCraft and Brood War, starting back in 1998 when they first released. And yet, I had never even heard of StarCraft: Insurrection until recently—so I decided to dive in fully. That journey led me to research fascinating sources such as late-1990s computer gaming magazines, reviews from 1998 through 2000, and even obscure references from a Blizzard lore panel in 2010, where Insurrection was discussed in terms of its canon status. Whether you’ve been a StarCraft fan for years or have only heard about the series in passing, I hope you enjoy watching as we explore this relatively unknown expansion.
