The Maragheh Observatory, founded in 1259 by the Persian scholar Nasir al-Din al-Tusi under the patronage of Hulagu Khan, was one of the most advanced scientific centers of the medieval world. Built near the city of Maragheh in present-day Iran, it brought together scholars from across Persia, Syria, China, and Central Asia to study astronomy, mathematics, and philosophy. The observatory produced the famous Ilkhanic Tables, an influential astronomical catalogue that improved the understanding of planetary motion and star positions.
