Each culture is unique and special; each country may have different ones but they are all equally important and worthy of respect, acknowledgement and understanding. As a migrant, and even as a tourist, it's very vital to know, learn and embrace the culture and practices of the community you are immersing yourself into. By doing so, you are showing respect, acknowledgement, interest and understanding of the things that are important to the people around you. And when you show respect, you gain the respect back. Just like any other country, New Zealand has a rich culture and unique practices. Having lived here for 8 years now, I can confidently say that these practices may not sound very ideal to many, but they definitely make sense. I have learned to embrace these practices and adapt the Kiwi culture. For anyone coming into New Zealand for the first time, knowing these will definitely reduce the likeliness of having what we call a "CULTURE SHOCK". Also, being familiar with these practices is certainly the best kickstart anyone could have; in order to enjoy the adventure in this beautiful country, around the friendliest and kindest people one can ever meet.
