Baba Sinde Khan was a musician from Sindh whose fakir like demeanor belied his musical wealth. Sinde Khan belonged to the pedagogical lineage of Haddu Khan (Sinde Khan's father, Amir Khan learnt from Banne Khan of Lucknow, who was a disciple of Haddu Khan) and was thus considered an inheritor of authentic Gwalior khayal. Deodharji was greatly influenced by his music and learnt many bandishes and rare Raags from him, which he even taught to his disciples like Pt. Kumar Gandharva and Pt. Chandrashekhar Rele. In this excerpt from the interview Deodharji talks about a rare raag and composition he learnt from Baba Sinde Khan. This nugget, from the archives of Samvaad Foundation, is being shared as a result of the public outreach program of the Manipal-Samvaad Centre for Indian Music. This documentation of Deodharji was undertaken by Pt. Arvind Parikh, who very generously donated this recording to Samvaad Foundation.
