Here is a video demonstrating how to start a Ruston and Hornsby PB series stationary engine, as used on farms through the 1930's until the 1950's. The engine shown here is the smallest of the range, a 6PB which produces 1.5-2hp at 700-1000rpm. This was a petrol only variant but the larger 8PB (3hp), 9PB(4.5hp) and 10PB (6.5hp) were all designed to run on paraffin once warmed up on a float full of petrol. The video shows the checks that should be made, not shown here but still important is to grease the magneto drive gears every so often, important for smooth and quiet drive. This engine was restored by myself last year over a period of 6 months taking 180 hours in total, the engine is painted in R&H bronze green an original colour. This one would date from between 1942 and 1947, but the original colour was grey telling us it was a wartime engine. I hope the video is useful and of interest, any questions; please do ask. Enjoy....
