From the moment we stepped into the woods, the bird nesting activity was non-stop. First up, we found something truly special—a Wood Warbler nest tucked low in a patch of mossy ground. This is the UK’s rarest leaf warbler, and its delicate dome-shaped nest was a real highlight—so well hidden we almost walked right past it. Not long after, we spotted a pair of Linnets flitting between gorse branches, and sure enough, we found their nest hidden deep in the spiny cover, lined with wool and feathers. A short walk further on and we caught the soft call of a Blackcap—a bit of patience paid off when we located the Blackcap nest, low in a tangle of bramble and nettle, with the adults actively feeding nearby. Just as we were wrapping up, we heard the chiff-chaffing notes of a Chiffchaff, and after a quiet bit of watching, we spotted it dropping into a well-concealed spot. There it was—another beautiful dome nest, typical of Chiffchaff nesting behaviour, perfectly placed in low vegetation. Every nest we found was recorded as part of the British Trust for Ornithology’s Nest Record Scheme (BTO NRS)—a vital project collecting data on the breeding success of the UK’s wild birds and helping to inform national conservation efforts. A walk full of surprises, bird nesting encounters, and a rare glimpse into the secret lives of British songbirds. If you're into nesting birds, bird watching, or UK bird conservation, this one’s for you. #BirdNesting #WoodWarbler #LinnetNest #BlackcapNest #ChiffchaffNest #UKBirds #NestRecordScheme #BTONRS #SongbirdNesting #WildBirdNests #britishbirds
